Using AI To Write For You?

High Leverage NOT Hustle

Do these sound familiar?

“The truth is…”

“In today’s world…”

"Not X. Not Y. Just Z."

If they do, you are either using AI to help you write content, or you're reading a lot of content from other people using ChatGPT to write.

And there's one big danger in doing this...

But first, let me be transparent... I use AI to help me write content. 🙋🏻‍♂️

So I am NOT bashing the practice.

If you consider AI to be a better writer than you, why wouldn't you use it, right?

But the danger in using it to write for you is it's writing very similar content for millions of other businesses. This includes your competitors. 😬

It would be like hiring a copywriter who had 50 other clients in your niche, and sent them all the exact same copy.

Here 3 ways I use it to improve my writing, without letting it write for me:

1️⃣ I brain dump my ideas and ask ChatGPT to help me organize them.

It's great at matching stories to lessons and spotting patterns I haven't noticed.

2️⃣ I ask it to help me make a sentence more concise.

This is something that I could do with my own brain, but it would take me longer and wouldn't be as good. Asking it for help with a sentence doesn't end up with you using words and phrases you'd never use, and the result is still your original thought.

3️⃣ When I finish a piece, I ask it for a compelling question that I can include to increase engagement.

Admittedly this task is hard and slow for me, so using AI to get a list of choices just makes sense.

Using ChatGPT in those 3 ways helps me create stronger content while still utilizing my own thoughts, ideas and voice.

But the reason I know the phrases I mentioned above is because my brain has an emotional reaction when I read them.

"Ugh, I would never say that." 🥴

When you feel that, change those words sa fast as possible.

And hold onto that feeling - otherwise we're about 6 months away from all sounding identical. 🤦🏻‍♂️

BTW I noticed there's a typo above, which is not surprising since I wrote this myself from scratch - and I'm human.

High Leverage NOT Hustle Last weekend I invited my 12-year-old to go on a bike ride that included getting ice cream. 😛 He got excited, but said he wanted to ride his scooter instead. I reminded him that it would be SIX miles (almost 10k) round trip and much harder on a scooter - but he insisted he'd be fine. About 8 minutes in, he started complaining that his hands were hurting. I suggested we turn around, but he wanted to keep going. Five minutes later: One leg was sore AND blisters were...
